At Home
Meditation for Beginners at Home
You don’t need a studio, a teacher, or a subscription to start meditating. Your home has everything you need — including the perfect tool: a bare wall.
Set up a simple space
Find a quiet corner with a plain wall. Add a cushion or a chair. Keep it consistent — returning to the same spot each day quietly signals your mind to settle before you’ve done anything.
Your first home practice
- Sit upright facing the wall, two to four feet away.
- Lower your gaze; eyes soft and half-open.
- Rest attention on your breath.
- When your mind wanders, gently return.
- Ten minutes to start.
This is the whole method. For the details and common questions, read our step-by-step guide and meditation posture guide. New to Zen? Start with Zen meditation for beginners.
