Staring at a Wall to Relax: A Simple Technique
You don’t need an app or a class to relax. One of the simplest resets available is already in your home: a blank wall and a few quiet minutes.
Why it relaxes you
Relaxation happens when the nervous system shifts from “fight or flight” into “rest and digest.” Sitting still, breathing slowly, and resting your gaze on a featureless wall gently invites that shift. There’s almost nothing to process, so the body powers down.
A 5-minute relaxation
- Sit comfortably, two to four feet from a plain wall.
- Soften your gaze downward; eyes half-open.
- Breathe slowly — a long exhale is the relaxation switch.
- Let thoughts drift by without chasing them.
- Stay five minutes; extend if it feels good.
